Plein Air Urban Sketching (June 2-23)

Make the most of Winnipeg’s long, glowing evenings with this immersive 4-week plein air sketching and watercolour class designed for creatives who want to capture the beauty of the outdoors in real time. Timed to coincide with the late sunsets approaching and following the summer solstice, each session takes place during golden hour—when light is soft, shadows are long, and colours come alive.

Participants will explore nearby urban and natural settings within an easy walk from our studio at The Johnston Terminal at the Forks, learning how to quickly sketch on location and translate those observations into expressive sketches with watercolour or alcohol marker accents. Instruction will focus on composition, perspective, focal points, and techniques for working efficiently outdoors. You’ll also gain confidence using portable materials and adapting to changing light conditions—an essential skill for plein air artists.

Each evening offers a new location and fresh inspiration, making every class a unique creative experience. By the end of the four weeks, you’ll have a collection of vibrant, light-filled studies and the skills to continue creating outdoors all summer long. Join us Tuesdays at 7:00 pm starting on June 2.
